About Himboy
Himboy (he/they) is a trans gender fluid human living, performing and teaching on unceded Wurundjeri country in Naarm/Melbourne, and around Australia. From sensual shibari, to camp and energetic circus rope, to the downright dirty, he is a versatile performer, using his lived experience and queer love to inform his work. Inspired by many different styles, he practices a rope agnostic approach to his teaching and is able to provide informed advice around a range of styles from traditional Shibari to circus style self suspension and everything in between.
Himboy has been in and around the rope community, and an active member of the broader kink scene since 2016. In 2020 Himboy co-founded Melbourne Community Rope, a queer led not-for-profit teaching collective of rope educators, and in 2022 founded Himboy Events. His previous performance credits include Sexpo Melbourne 2022/2023 as one of their first trans-masculine performers, Northside Bizarre, Tomboy @The Laird, Tomboy After Dark, Demasque Magazine, Gay Life Drawing, Shibari Lounge, Unicorns World Pride and Homo Club World Pride. Introduction to Self Suspension (101)
Sunday 10th May from 12pm to 4pm
$120pp
Class Description
Introduction to Self Suspension (101) is a basic self suspension class. With knowledge of a single column tie, or having previously attended a beginners rope class, participants will build knowledge of uplines, equipment safety before exploring some self suspension and partials low to the ground. Most importantly, students will work on understanding and building their own risk profiles around self suspension, considering gear and relative skill levels.
All self suspension will require an individual spotter, and as such, students will learn to spot for each other and take turns on points. Participants must bring their own rope, safety/cutting implement, and rated carabiners or a suspension ring.
Please be aware that self tying can be physically and/or emotionally demanding, so it is suggested that you bring snacks, drinks and any other aftercare needs.
Class will include
Introduction to self suspension as a tool for creating playful moments to connect with yourself and your body.
introduction to uplines.
introduction to equipment safety for suspension.
Education around developing body awareness in rope, movement, safety and connection to the self.
Introduction to spotting (all students will spot for each other throughout the class to get some practical experience).
Who are the classes for?
Anyone over the age of 18 that wants to explore rope as a tool for play no matter the background of rope school or experience.
Self-tiers of any size/shape/ability (all ties have modifications for the top and the bottom).
Anyone interested in rope somatics and nerdy rope things.
Pre-requisites/class requirements
Tying knowledge - non-collapsing single column tie (Rope 365 has a great tutorial if you need a hand/refresher)
Without a non collapsing single column tie that can be tied consistently and with good tension, there is no guarantee participants will get into the air. This is a non-negotiable pre-requisite.
What to bring to class
4-6 lengths of rope or more (ideally jute, but whatever you are comfortable with), rated carabiners or suspension ring, sling, cutting implement, drink bottle, notebook.
Please DM Himboy if you need recommendations for places to buy carabiners, slings, etc.
