Aerial Yoga

Our yoga classes at Studio Kink are currently on hold until further notice due to Covid 19 restrictions.

Wednesday Nights 6pm to 7pm

Aerial Yoga Studio Kink is proud to announce our newest series of Aerial Yoga classes to be held in our dedicated yoga space (Studio Zero) in 2019. This specialty class is more than just yoga, and builds on from more traditional forms of yoga resulting in an immersive aerial experience.

Imagine being suspended from the ceiling, in a flowing silk sling, performing weightless yoga moves, all whilst under the careful and guided instruction of our skilled instructors. The sling cradles and wraps your body providing much needed support, allowing gravity to slowly decompress joints and realign the body so you can let go into the practice, and build from learning to master simple inversions through to more complex poses and shapes.

Aerial Yoga was developed 20 years ago by an American dancer, Christopher Harrison who used the silks to attempt to form shapes seen in yoga, but just in the air and whilst upside down. Though this might sound terrifying, it really is much easier to get started than one would think as the sling creates a feeling of support and weightlessness that is not generally experienced in most fitness classes.

WHY SHOULD I TRY AERIAL YOGA?

  • Physical Benefits Aerial Yoga will decompress your joints. Hanging freely will provide length to your spine and relieve stress from your vertebrae. Your core will strengthen and lengthen while you perform deeper stretches and longer holds.

  • Harmonial Benefits Enter a state of ZEN as hanging inverted refreshes the lymphatic, digestive and circulatory systems. Your body will then release “happy hormones” serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin and dopamine. Be prepared to float out of the studio.

  • More than Yoga People that do AERIAL YOGA do not always practice yoga. Aerial Yoga, is a combination of Yoga, Calisthenics, Gymnastics, and Aerial Arts. It’s more than “just” another class. This is definitely an experience that you should try at least once.

  • What to expect Drop all expectations. Like all new experiences, it requires an open mind. It may be difficult to picture yourself doing backflips in a golden silk hammock in your first class, but many students do. Approach our studio with an open mind, release your inhibitions, trust your sling and trust your instructor – they will do the rest.
